Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ -

What Martial Art do you teach?

This is a Mixed Martial Art that focuses on fitness and defensive skills.  We incorporate the best from Jiu Jitsu, Karate, Kickboxing, MMA and Kali Silat.

What is Kali Silat?

Kali Silat is a martial art from the Philippines and Indonesia that is both practical and graceful.  Special Forces and Security teams learn it for its realistic combat skill.

What’s with the sticks?

The sticks are a training tool to develop the Empty-Hand.  Think of it like a baseball player who uses weights to become a better player.  The sticks are like weight training for self-defense.

What should I wear?

We have a school uniform that consists of workout pants, a t-shirt and a belt.

What should I bring?

We recommend that you drink plenty of water all day, and especially bring water to class with you.

Why all the religious stuff?

Spiritually has always been an important part of most martial art practices, and ours is no different.  Everyone is welcome, no matter what your beliefs are, we only ask that you keep your heart and mind open to receiving the good news of Jesus Christ.  We reserve the right to refuse our services to anyone who is antagonistic to our faith; otherwise, please come just as you are.

What does “Come As You Are Expecting to Get Even Better” mean?

Mas Guru Jason teaches that we are all created in the image of God, and Jesus demonstrated that He will meet us right where we are.  Just as no one comes to faith already perfected, no one needs to feel like they need to get in shape before starting class.  Whatever shape you are in physically, mentally and/or spiritually, you are ready to start your training.  Just expect to get even better!

What if it’s too intense?

We only ask that you do your best.  Push yourself just enough, but don’t hurt yourself.  If you give it Your all, you will get even better, but your growth in martial art will be at your pace.  And that’s just fine.

Will my kid become a bully?

Mas Guru Jason will not teach any student that becomes a bully.  Our goal is that every student will find the courage and confidence to become a peacemaker.

Will I have to fight or spar?

Sparring is a very small part of our overall practice, and no one is expected to spar before Mas Guru Jason is sure they are ready.
